Supercell Hosts Global AI Game Hackathon in 3 Locations for 54 Hours!

From February 6th (Fri) to February 9th (Mon), 2026, Japan time, global game development company Supercell held a global AI game hackathon with the participation of game developers, AI developers, and gamers from all over the world. In addition to an online venue accessible from anywhere in the world, local participation slots were prepared in London, Helsinki, San Francisco, and Tokyo, and 115 games on the theme of generative AI were submitted, and the projects were released as open source. Participants worked intensively for two days, leveraging tools provided by notable AI startups, with support and mentorship via Discord. Ultimately, the projects were submitted to the global hackathon platform "Junction

", and judged by thousands of peer reviews (mutual evaluations) among participants.
Supercell is a world-renowned mobile game development company based in Helsinki, Finland. Known for its mega-hits such as "Clash of Clans", "Clash Royale", "Brawl Stars", and "Hay Day", it is also the largest game development company in Europe, providing high-quality competitive and strategy games that are free to play, and is known as the first "decacorn" company in Europe with a value of 10 billion US dollars.

Tokyo Venue Photo Report
The AICU editorial department closely covered the Tokyo venue, documenting the challenges of "creators" unique to AI.
First, as big news, Jerry Chi, former representative of Stability AI Japan, joined Supercell on January 26th.
This time, I have returned to @supercell, the developer of Clash of Clans, Clash Royale, Brawl Stars, etc., and will be the head of the Tokyo AI Innovation Lab!
Supercell already has similar AI Innovation Labs in San Francisco and Helsinki, and Tokyo will be the third location.
We want to support early-stage indie game developers in Japan/APAC who are trying to create new game experiences and interactive entertainment using AI.
I believe that AI will create a lot of unprecedented "fun". However, no one knows yet which one will be a big hit. I will do my best to accelerate that discovery. If you know anyone interested in game development and AI, please introduce them! Also, we are currently recruiting participants for the Supercell AI Innovation Lab. This program is a 9-week program where ambitious builders gather to experiment and develop AI-powered games and entertainment. We are serious about supporting you: office space, housing support, tools, and free computing resources Level Up: Industry-leading game development mentors, community, and continuous feedback Program Overview 📷 Application Deadline: February 22, 2026 📷 Implementation Period: March 23, 2026 - May 23, 2026 📷 Location: Tokyo / San Francisco / Helsinki 📷 How to Apply: https://ailab.supercell.com Separately, we will also be holding a Global AI Game Hack from February 6th to 8th, so please join us if you are interested (https://luma.com/qkcem6mi) By the way, I am also very grateful to have been able to lead research at my previous job, Mewtant / PixAI. It was a truly valuable experience to be surrounded by people passionate about machine learning and anime culture at a rapidly growing startup, and to be able to delve into the creative aspects of generative models, and I learned a lot.

From the Closing Ceremony Message
Hello, hackers. Welcome to the closing ceremony of the "Global AI Game Hackathon". We will announce the winners soon. We will also talk a little about what will happen after this hackathon. But before that, I would like to express my gratitude to everyone. It was truly a wonderful experience to see you all pouring your hearts and souls into these projects throughout the weekend. I was truly amazed by the quality of the projects and all the creative solutions. There was a lot of effort behind it. I think you have really broken through to the next level. That alone is worthy of praise.
You have been hacking continuously for about 54 hours, which was already quite a forced march (crunch). Thanks to the eight wonderful partners who helped us along the way, a total of 115 projects were submitted. After the forced march to make the submission, you also cast a total of nearly 10,000 votes in the peer review system. This is a significant number.
Someone even live-streamed during the voting, and seeing that made us smile. And finally, the three winners in the main categories have been decided!
Prizes and Surprises
Let me explain about the prizes. As you know, there are 3 main winners in each category, but we will also be awarding prizes to the top 3 in each category. In addition to that, there will also be partner awards given by our partner companies for the best submissions made using each tool.
Of course, it wouldn't be a grand closing ceremony without another surprise. As a thank you for your wonderful participation, we will be giving everyone a referral code to participate in the "AI Lab" application process.
- AI Lab Application Deadline: The deadline is February 22nd, so please apply as soon as possible.

Announcement of Each Challenge
We will be publishing the top 10 in each category. We will display 4th to 10th place, and then proceed one by one with 3rd, 2nd, and 1st place.
AI Game Challenge
3rd Place: "Incarnation AI Drawing Game"
2nd Place: "AI Land Cozy AI Sandbox"
1st Place: "Mr. Jacobs' office"
"I am Mr. Jacobs. You have been hired. The job is simple. Follow the rules and act accordingly. Never try to leave. There are 'objects' and 'items' in my office. Items can be picked up, combined, or used. Draw water into a glass, set fire to a tree, and pour water on it. All interactions are interpreted by the AI model. If there is a new attempt, the AI will understand it and then it will be cached and executed immediately. You can flatter or bribe me on the terminal. You can cooperate, interfere, or even hack the simulation. You can also mess with my brain (the mechanism of the simulation) in the admin panel."
(Organizer's comment): I wanted to experience that office in a beautiful and terrifying way. This is a very good example of what an AI game should be. It doesn't look like AI is always controlling you, but it is baked into the game's system. UX (user experience) and the feel of the game come first, and that is beautifully expressed. I am just amazed that they created this in about 2 days.
AI Remake Challenge
3rd Place: "Canceled Any%"
2nd Place: "Semantic Chess"
1st Place: "Chess with an Angry Four-Year-Old"
A novel concept game of playing chess with a 4-year-old! He gets angry, introduces new rules such as frogs and UFOs... The game is based on real-life experiences.
(Game introduction): Play chess with an angry 4-year-old, living life on the edge. Play by his rules, or you'll make him angry. When he gets angry, he introduces new pieces to the field. You can also ask him to revert the rules. This game is based on a true story.
(Organizer's comment): This is a wonderful way to implement new fun into the existing game of chess. I think this category is particularly difficult. When you try to implement AI into an existing game, it tends to feel forced, and as a result, it tends to be gimmicky (showy but useless) or more technology-oriented than necessary. But this solution is very wonderful, original, and finds a way to bring something unique with AI, and it fits perfectly.

(Organizer's comment): This was a beautiful solution that combined so many complex environments into one product. It's really difficult to do that with AI. Scope creep can occur, or you have to deal with many different environments. It's really amazing that they did it in just 2 days.

This is the end of the hackathon. Thank you for participating. One thing I would like to ask is that you talk to your friends about AI Lab. Post on LinkedIn or chat over coffee.
Please add our team on LinkedIn. My name is Matias. I would like to stay connected with everyone working in this field. If you send me a message, I promise to reply within a few days.
Have a good night. I hope you have a smooth landing back to school or work. Let's keep in touch. Thank you very much.
After Covering the Site
I was overwhelmed by the sight of developers from different nationalities and backgrounds surrounding a single screen and engaging in trial and error within a limited time of 54 hours. I was convinced through the enthusiasm of the venue that AI is not just a tool for improving efficiency, but a powerful partner for exploding individual creativity and creating new "play".
What impressed me most in this coverage was that AI lowers the "hurdle to development" and dramatically raises the "resolution of expression" at the same time. The era of vibe coding, where attempts that once took months can take shape in just two days. And just riding the vibes won't complete the game. There was the fun and difficulty of polishing the MVP, that is, the fun and value of the game, within a limited time.
Tokyo was in the midst of national elections, and it was cold outside with snow, but inside the Tokyo venue, there was not only development, but also information sharing on cutting-edge AI coding, and a warm space where startup entrepreneurs, game developers, and others exchanged heated discussions and laughter. Due to the time difference, Japan ended up disbanding at the project review on the final day, but the editorial department was also thrilled when the participating works were evaluated globally. As AICU, which aims to "create creators", we would like to continue to fully support this exciting movement.
